This album was recorded on a 4-track cassette recorder over the course of a couple of years, with the bulk of it being completed while on lockdown in New York during the spring of 2020. The songs were recorded as close to their inception as possible. In many cases, the first and only time they were played was while the tape was rolling. After years of indecision masquerading as “perfectionism”, I purposefully put these songs down as quickly as I could, on the first take if possible, without editing or going back or rethinking things too much. I like the limitations a 4-track provides; having to make do and convey your idea within a finite framework. I think the magic of the moment comes through in these recordings, an immediacy, the excitement of a new song, the moment in time captured on tape forever.
